Not everyone is keen to spend cash on electronic devices to repel cats and that’s ok. They can be a considerable investment. What is alternative? There’s always an alternative, right? Well in this case the answer is yes. There is a plant known as Coleus caninus (Scaredy Cat) that cats and dogs (and even rabbits and foxes allegedly) simply loathe coming into contact with or in proximity to. This South African cat repelling plant grows to a size of approximately 45cm x 60cm (18” x 24″) and produces blue flowers in Summer. It prefers a warm, sunny aspect so not ideal if the offending animal prefers to poo in the shade.

Coleus caninus (Scaredy Cat) is available from certain garden centres. Here’s what a certain garden centre chain has to say about it:

This South African plant has been proven to repel cats, dogs and even rabbits. When leaves are touched, they give off a strong repellent smell. Blue summer flowers are a bonus.
